Elaine Pollard Memorial Scholarship‚Äč

Elaine Marie Pollard passed away gently on November 28, 2012, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. She spent her last days surrounded by family and friends, with the daily support of Rochester VNA Hospice and the Jimmy Fund Clinic/Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Her parents, Leslie and Karen Pollard, sister Alicia Otis and brother James Pollard, will miss her energy and fighting spirit every single day. There is no way to thank each and every person or organization who contributed to Elaine's joy over the past five years, but the family extends sincere appreciation and gratitude for all the generous gifts received.

Elaine planned to attend college for fashion or photography, and one of her proudest achievements was walking across the graduation stage for the Bud Carlson Academy in 2010. Her remission didn't last, but she didn't stop wishing for a college adventure one day. With that desire in mind, a scholarship fund for graduates of the Bud Carlson Academy to continue their education has been established in Elaine's memory in partnership with the Rochester Rotary Charities.

Bud Carlson students interested in applying for the scholarship should obtain a scholarship application from the Guidance Office or download it here.  The deadline for 2015 is May 1st and the completed application should be returned via mail to:

 Alicia Otis

175 Eastern Avenue #301

Manchester, NH 03104

For those interested in donation to the Elaine Pollard Memorial Scholarship fund, checks should be made payable to Rochester Rotary Charities and mailed to P.O. Box 779, Rochester, NH  03866

The Rochester Rotary Club offers several scholarships each year to deserving area high school seniors. The Club also administers and awards one annual scholarship from the Vern and Barbara Clement Memorial Scholarship Fund (Vern Clement founded Easter Propane and was a Rochester Rotary Club member).  Scholarship applicants must be high school seniors and either Rochester residents and/or the child of an Eastern Propane employee.

The scholarships range from $500 to $1000 per recipient.  The application is available in the guidance office of Spaulding High School or is available for download here.  The application must be returned to the Scholarship Committee no later than March 31, 2015.

The applications are evaluated based upon the scholarship, financial need, extra-curricular or vocational participation and, of course, community service participation of the applicant.  For more information about Rochester Rotary scholarships, contact the Committee Chair, Jackie Fitzpatrick at

The Rochester Rotary Club also offers the Elaine Pollard Memorial Scholarship annually to a student graduating from the Bud Carlson Academy.
